Alright, this is something that has been bugging my mind for a while and I feel like I need to make a proposal.
As we know, the surprise rules right now involve rolling distance and opposite perception checks...But what if while your in that distance, the enemy can somehow detect you?
There are several abilities that can do that. Tremorsense, Blindsense, Blindsight, Detect Good/Evil, etc.
So my proposal is, if you roll for distance and you end up inside the effective range of an ability like the ones I mentioned above, you dont get to roll for surprise rounds. It makes sense, don't it?
Alternatively, if a player somehow possesses such an ability, they can choose to perceive enemies at the end of the effective range of their ability instantly, thus ignoring any distance roll that would bring the enemy closer to them.
I make this proposal because such abilities tend to be really sought after in most games, and right now they are being kind of ignored a bit.
