I believe that players who have invested a lot of time into a character but who wish to play a new one should be allowed to temporarily retire their character from play instead of having them get killed off. This would only apply to characters who have reached level 15 or higher and players would only be allowed one character in reserve at any given time. The character would still eat, sleep, age and perform other basic tasks but will never adventure, gain experience or interact with the game world in any way. The player would have no control over that character until he drops the newer one. The character will still be threatened by outside dangers and other players may still interact with the retired character (they may even go as far as to engage character in combat). In this situation, control over the character is given to a GM and not the original owner of the character. This rule would be to acknowledge the players who have spent a lot of time in a character but who would also like to try something new without having to put all of their work to waste.

5th?
Only I'd like to add one condition to that. Once you have two 15th level characters, you cannot swap between them whenever you want. You have to wait for at least a month before you can.

hey guys someone had a fantastic idea. Family lines. If you retire a lv 10 you should be able to play their child. Also if you approve it someone else can play your retired characters child.
