This old journal seems to be made from worn green scales that seems to have been taken from some kind of reptile, most likely a giant gecko. The pages held inside are yellow and seem to be very old. Many are tattered, stained or otherwise ineligible, but later on into the book the pages become more comprehensible and less tattered, reading out journal entries from the Drow Pirate in Elven.
Week 27,
While on my journey my services as a ranger were called upon and hired by the people of Veiðimaðurheimian. I was to act as their guide for a week and assist them in any combat that may occur, as well as to help them claim a section of land for their country. It paid well enough so I accepted, though the addition of the Orc that came by put me on edge. He was a brute, an ugly one, with a foul temper to match. It was fortunate he was there later on, however, when we were attacked by Hobgoblins. Though my disdain for him is great, as with most of these lesser species, he still proved invaluable as he got at the very least 6 kills under his belt alone. I killed one and took a small blow to the side, though my arrows injured others as well.
One of the Veiðimaðurheimians fell in combat to the creatures, lucky to still be alive after taking a nasty wound from a longsword. Still he lived, though I wonder if the world wouldn't be better without him. Still in the end we managed to kill the Hobgoblins with nothing left save for their now rotting corpses, disgusting creatures. We found no further engagements past them, but the party decided to not use my talents to help search for any valuables the land might have had. They came up empty-handed, the fools. I could practically smell a discovery of some sort just hovering out of view, ready to be found. Perhaps I would have found it if they chose to use my talents, it was their loss anyways.
Now, however, my time here has come to an end and my trip must end soon. I need to return to the cove, there's much planning to be had. I leave Veiðimaðurheimian tonight right after the sun sets. Goddess watch over me.

Week 28,
I have begun to reach the edge of the forest now, my movement swift and difficult to track in the case of assassins being sent after me. I estimate I will be back home within 5 weeks, where Blackwater Cove will be waiting. The forest's edge nears but my senses tell me something is wrong. The wildlife has been silent, and a smell of decay permeates the air. I feel a fight on the horizon, I will be ready for it. I prepare my arrows now and will be ready to continue this entry after my fight, should one occur.

Week 28, continued.
I walked into combat, finding myself confronted by a group of undead. Thankfully a newcomer came to my aid, even if he is but a human. I notice his professional stance is similar to mine in scouting and hunting. As such I've deemed it well enough that he join my crew should he accept. I will need the company if I'm to travel any further through his accursed land. The fight was hard and even with his help it did not look like a promising victory. He fell unconscious, victim to a skeleton's scimitar, and I was left alone to kill the remaining two. It was a fight I could not win.
Perhaps the goddess favors me, however, as I was soon met by a druid and a witch, who entered simultaneously. The Druid healed me, a fact I am quite loathe to admit. The witch did the same for the other Ranger and got him back up onto his feet. Now we stood a chance and were able to defeat the undead and their foul stench back to the grave. I have decided that I shall bring these two along as well, but I doubt they would make the same quality of Pirate as the Ranger, the Druid himself took a few powerful blows within the few seconds he was there, he is not as strong as he would perhaps like to think himself to be. The witch I do not know about in her strengths but I do not hold much more faith in her than the Druid. Still they will be useful in the trip.

Unlike previous pages, pages from here have been written in undercommon now rather than Elven.
Week 29,
Failure. Failure failure failure failure failure *The word is repeated for an entire page, the next page stating the word once more before continuing.*
Failure. That is what I held today and it angers me. We encountered a massive beast resembling a scorpion. With our combined force we managed to crush it, in addition to picking up an old ally in the form of Vezarius, one of the Jianteere. He'll be joining us on our trip back home and will make as a good ally. The pirates grow stronger by the day and it looks like we may do well in the coming wars that are bound to emerge. After our battle with the Scorpion we stumbled across a large reptillian beast, an herbivore infact. It was massive, and held a short-temper that rivaled an Orc's. Such a creature could make for a valuable ally even if we wouldn't be able to take it with us. Just its being there would be an impediment to our enemies and a boon for ourselves. Disaster struck, however, as our attempts at befriending it quickly turned hostile. We made it out unharmed physically but it was a deep blow to my pride. I'm not used to running, it's not the most comfortable of feelings and I distaste the flavor it leaves in my mouth when I use the word. Failure failure failure!
The witch that we met last week turned out to be a half-elf, so I now write in Undercommon in the case she is a spy. One can never be too careful. We will reach Freeport within a single week and will be able to continue our journey home from there.

Week 30,
I lost sight of the reptile we had faced before, I will simply have to let its presence go in reminder that I will simply have to be stronger. The week has gone on relatively uneventfully. We spotted more of the large creatures, a herd of three, and wisely decided to avoid them. Why there are so many of these creatures here I know not, but such sights disturbs me. Freeport is a strange region indeed. I can see the city in the distance now and estimate we will be there in one day's time. I will write further on the developments of our siege.
There was no siege of Freeport, for the city lacked defenses. The few guards stationed in town knew it was unwise to resist and opened the gates to us. The people are strange here, free of all burdens yet oddly chaotic in everything they do. We ensured that the treasury was secure and then moved back out of the town to return for it later. It's simply too much to carry, and we could hunt for the few weeks it will take the ship to arrive. We need to be more ready for the challenges ahead, we don't have anything better to do anyways. End of Week 30.
Despite the previous paragraph, another paragraph is written below it, the words angrily sketched in;
That bloody fool! Drugo jumped into the ocean water to try and engage an octopus we were firing at. What possessed him to try such a reckless tactic I will never know but I cannot allow this to happen again. I trust my crew, but they require guidance. The Half-elf jumped in to save him but what she seemed to forget was that she didn't know how to swim either. I had to pull her out before she met a similar fate to Drugo. By some odd miracle my bodyguard survived, something I am thankful for but it doesn't change the matter that I must keep a closer eye on my crew. This cannot happen again, it will not.

Week 31,
I write early in my times, earlier than usual. My mind has been plagued constantly, I continue to see the Black Wolf that has been following me since leaving the forests of Volkenheim. Its presence is eery, disturbing even. Whether it is some distortion of my mind or a true wolf indeed its presence is something strange. It has no pack, or if it does they are exceptionally skilled in hiding that even my eyes would not be able to spot them. Furthermore I know that if it wished to attack it had plenty an opportunity in the past to end my life, but yet it hesitates. I feel a strong connection to the beast, it is not something easy to describe nor something I would wish to admit. After we had ensured Drugo was safe and cared for, I had spotted it on a hill some distance away. I fired an arrow after it but it fled from my aggression.
I shall keep a watchful eye for it, to see perhaps what it desires as my death does not appear to such a thing. It appears hesitant in most of what it does, or is it merely cautious? I feel I shall find out soon enough. Given its only coming out at night, and its following me wherever I tread, I have dubbed it the name Olath Su'aco, Dark Wind. What happens next is yet to be determined. Until then I should return to my hunting, it will take some time for the ship to arrive and I will need food before then.

Week 33,
The events of the previous week were so fast in their happenings that I had not a moment to write in my journal. What had happened though was beyond expectations. The wolf, Olath Su'aco, joined me in battle, a loyal thing that worked to defend my life. It took serious injuries, however, and we had since taken care of it. What's more when it was strong enough to fight again it stood rock-solid against greater foes. The creature has left a good enough impression upon me that I have decided to bring it with me. The humans we killed were foolish for barring us entry to the ocean. Their lives are ended now though and we made our way into the sea. We stopped several times for food, in our travels we fled from bestial Ogres and managed to slay an Ettercap and its spider-pets.
Other monsters tried to kill us but we slew each one and have become stronger because of it. Wyatt showed good promise in his ability to work with wild creatures of the sea and now four dolphins aid our struggle. It is a good thing, as well, as I've managed to spot several fins in the water ahead, my guess is the predators of the ocean have found prey, and they will attack us as well if we are not careful. Perhaps it will be a good test of faith in our new-found allies.
