I have a character with a really good craft modifier and was able to make three good rolls: a 12, a 16 and an 18. If we are already using the proposed exp table, I would get 2500 xp in a week. My previous character in a party of three is 800 xp short towards level 3 in the same period. This sounds fair. im sorry i dont understand the post 1 how are you getting 2500 exp in a week i 2 is the second part sarcastic and 3 im in agreement with crafters shouldnt get as much exp for crafting as a fighter will get for risking his life so if you are getting the same exp as him i need to tweek the system

I think he means crafting time that can be reduced. He might be able to craft an item that takes 1 week in 1/2 the time. But the xp would technically be the same, since he is crafting a "week" item.

I'm pretty sure he's getting paid in xp ...not earning xp from crafting. Just as a carpenter makes money for his goods instead of it being money its xp...that my understanding...I could be wrong

Well in that case I'm going to leave this thread because I don't want to cause negative things to spread on here.

How about this. the XP gained works as you say. But it is given based on the time it takes to craft regardless of the DC of the item. So even if you do manage to some how make a Masterwork +9001 Iron Reaver Soul Stealer Double Adamantium Great Ax of Burning Fingers in only 1/2 week you would get the same xp as if you made a normal dagger in that same time. The reward for your work would be in haveing the result with in that time frame and or being able to sell it that much sooner.

Well for magic items there is the risk of creating them cursed.
I think we should award experience for things that are dangerous or may produce unwanted results (and no losing part of your materials doesn't count). So that would leave us with crafting magic items and alchemy(which may cause lab explosions). Alchemy is a bit sketchy though.

That sound reasonable to you Ku? the reason this doesnt sit right with me is that the better someone is the less there rewarded for the same work there are only 2 ways to decrease the time it takes to craft having 5 or ten ranks in the apropriate craft skill and rolling high since taking ten will reduce exp or having 5 ranks in the craft skill saying you should get less experience for doing better is like saying you a level 5 fighting a cr 2 you should get less experience

Are you getting XP for crafting right now? And what has any of the GM's said about this?

Has your crafter been in any near death experiences while crafting? And if we're to follow this logic that means any carpenter, blacksmith, bower, pretty much any crafter in the town as an NPC will gain experience and player lvls also? Am I correct?
