The winds were somewhat chill as Gareth approached the ruins of a once great tower. It was a bitter reality to find himself approaching the same tower he had left several years earlier to find himself. The Order seemed active as he approached the tower. From within there was more movement than usual.
"Hail brother, what brings you here?" questioned the acolyte posted at the door. His straight expression conveying he had no recollection of who I am.
"I have traveled for several years to find where I belong to only find myself being sent back here, I am Gerath and I must be admitted to speak to the grand master," I responded with a little more force than was probably required.
His eyes grew larger as recognition dawned upon him who I was "Oathbreaker? What would bring you back here," he questioned while drawing his axe.
"Be at ease brother, I do not come to cause trouble. I am meant to be here and must speak to the grand master about ..... my vows." I responded, choosing my words carefully. I had not left the order easily and normally one does not just return. "I have had a vision, the Stormmaiden wishes I stop here on my way to Nisengard for the moot and I intend to follow her command. Now step aside, I will leave my sword and shield with you."
The acolyte seems unsure of what to do according to the appearance of him chewing his lip. Indecision does not go well with one of the order when you are the only line of defense that stands between the arcane and the world. Evidently reaching a decision he nodded and offered to take my sword and shield. Upon fetching another acolyte to cover his post he leads me to what is now the top floor of the ruined tower and knocks. "Grand master, I apologize but I come with Gerath the Oathbreaker. He claims to have been sent here by Nise's command," he states through the solid wood door. Some shuffling can be heard before the door is quickly swung inward and an old man in robes stands before the entry way.
"Gareth, it has been long since you left us to find your way and here you are again. Please come in, your timing is most fortunate and must be the orchestrations of something more." He turns and walks back to his desk while continuing to talk. "We have just received word there is to be a moot and a magi is requested." He sits down behind his desk. I take a seat before the large wooden desk and study the old man as his gaze passes over me to the acolyte behind me. "That will be all, and you can bring him his weapons. Much has happened since Gareth left us it seems." The acolyte leaves and closes the door behind him before the grand master continues, "It seems you have grown quite strong in your absence. I fear to see the man you may become yet if you continue down this road you have chosen, but if you succeed I will envy you. One of the magi has accepted to go to the moot, Garrett the clanless he is called. Once again you shall be one of us. Protect him, defend him, but above all watch him. Just like the acolyte, I fear to few will recognize you for more than a mere a fighter. Go with my blessing and take him with you."
With that, I took my leave and headed to find this Garrett. I opened the door and stepped out as an acolyte scurried into the room behind me as I left and was giving orders as to what is to come.
