In the early morning fog continued to hold sway over the forest. The cold morning was refreshing as it was bitter. It had been nearly one week since we had set off from the ruined castle. The Commander had given us a order of to march. So march we did. With axe, sword, and lance we carved into the frontier of our borders to grow our country. Looking at the soldiers still sleeping in their sleeping bags and a since of pride filled the nobles heart. Yes...this is where I belong. In Cheliax fellow commanders would sometimes leave you high and dry to die on the battlefield. Here the Commander fought in the front with his men. This country is worth fighting for...

His thoughts went to the wolves...12 wolves tried to overwhelm and kill a scout group from the main army. It was only by the sheer determination of his battlebrother Belial that the line held that day against overwhelming odds. It was the commander that came. When the line was to its breaking point. I myself was off my horse for it had been wounded gravely and I fought with my Earthbreaker in hand. Then it was the Commanders charge that saved the day and turned back the wolves. They feasted in hell that day not on our hearts. With the commanders lance and the medical expertise of our druid we carried the day. None dead...We survived against all odds. Glancing over at the cloak of wolf pelt that now adorns the nobles broad shoulders. This same cloak matched the same for everyone in camp. We not only shared in victory but also in the shared token of wolfskin cloaks.

Next log of Battle...Today our convoy was ambushed by a horde of the greenskin beasts when our forces were not all there. It was only with the extreme determination and bravery that our men were able to not only hold the line but push back at the greenskin menace. I myself was not at the battle but I road with all haste with my mount to the scene of battle. I came upon a victorious Band of men standing over the corpses of greenskins (hobgoblins, orcs, and bugbears). The band let one of their numbers go to tell his tail to others of his ilk to never again strike at the Band of the Hawk for they as well would end up like their filthy kin.

Claiming a territory on the frontier. This was a battle of titans. When we started to plant our flag and claim this region a great beast of some abyss did rise up and declare its majesty over this realm. It would not have any usurpers to its territory. However it did not realize that the Band of the Hawk would not retreat in front of an abomination. It is our divine destiny to rule this forest and no gods be damned monster from the pit would stop us. With our grand calvery charge the beast was put on its back heel. Then our heavy infantry to follow up and continued to drive the foul beast back. For the first time in untold ages that the beast experienced an emotion so alien to it. An emotion that is known as fear. Its icy grip over its heart shown apparent in its eyes when our blades sent it back to what ever pit birthed it.

Our most ancient of enemy the Owlbears. Our camp was claiming another territory when our most ancient and hated foe appeared. It appeared that this new territory was in despute with a tribe of owlbears. Our hatred of the owlbear kind runs deep with the Band of the Hawk for it was those scum that would stalk lonely hunters in the forest and kill and eat them. It is now a rule among the Hawks that in order for someone to be a full member they must do battle and overcome one of their ilk. Today we met our enemy on the field of battle. There was no tactics, there was no strategy. It was pure unadulterated hate and anger verses animal fury. The owlbear tribe and the Band of the Hawk met with crushing blows and charging horses. However we were not lonely hunters in the woods. We were a Organized Army of Calvery backed with Heavy Infantry and artillery units for support. The owlbears whose prowess in battle is known and feared in Calidor but today they were just animals to the slaughter. Not a man fell in battle. None one of the Hawks would fall to our ancient enemy. Today we took back the night. Today we took back the forests for civilization. The thrill of battle did excite me so that I jumped off my horse and grappled a owlbear with my bear hands to show this beast that even a human can bring death upon it with our hands. Now the members of the Expeditionary force all carry with them the claws of these beasts. Sven put his hand over the necklace that came from the beast he himself wrestled. This forest is our said Sven...I will be thrice damned if I let some beasts stop us.

Strolling through the camp and seeing the Owlbear necklaces and Wolf cloaks Sven knew his battlebrothers had been bloodied and battered but had held the line and won. Nobody had fallen..That is always the most important part of the mission. Sven looked at his self in the water basin. Seeing the once well kept noble dirty and messy was somewhat humorous. However as dirty as he was from the travels his armor still was freshly polished and clean. After washing his face in the ice cold water Sven set to work making wolf jerky from the stringy meat they got from the wolves. IT would undoubtedly taste gamey and horrible but there was something about eating the predators that once stalked the good people of this forest. A since of justice was being done. Plus the meat would be a interesting snack along the way. Ohh tonight we will bea feasting on Owlbear steak and maybe tomorrow a good owlbear stew. I only wish Aiges was here. He is a dang fine cook.

(As Sven smoked the jerky over a fire he salted the meat with different herbs that the druid had given him.) (Looking around for some of the other officers in the band of the hawk and hoping they wake up soon. ) (most of the soldiers still were sleeping in their respective tents, others preferring to sleep out under the stars.) (After setting the meat to smoke Sven went on the rounds around the perimeter to check on the sentries.) (In most armies in the world the tradition of "Stand to" is ancient and common practice. The most likely time for ambush or raid is the hours right before dawn when the sentries are tired and and right before dusk when the sentries are about to be replaced and are probably not as vigilant as a fresh soldier. So with "Stand to" all soldiers are to get up before the sun and be dressed and ready for war. In the unlikely even of an enemy raid it would be met and repulsed with full force.) (Sven walked the line of soldiers talking and joking with soldiers. Sharing in a remembered experience or pointing out a deficiency in a uniform.) (Sven knew the common soldiers probably didn't like his noble background but by the gods they respected him as a soldier.) (His experience with the Korvosian guard helping with his service now. ) (With the sun starting to raise and accountability already taken for the soldiers to make sure everyone was there and safe. The soldiers went back to thier duties or some went back to their sleeping bags to catch some more sleep before the course of the day drove them from their sleep.

(whistles looking at the large axe that Belial uses ) If it was not for your large axe there the wolves would of been the death of me earlier this week Belial. I am honored to fight by your side. Ahh Good morning Commander. We have a good campsite by the river. You know I grew up along the river right where it let out in to the sea. Oh and it was shark infested all right. Damnable things were known to take a man right off the docks. haha..

"My axe appreciates the compliments my allies" he says gratefully. "Sven, and how big might these vicious sharks have been? I've never been overly fond of the sea but it is a superior travel method so I must see it useful begrudgingly" he says with a curious tone

Those sharks were about a man and a half long. Mean bastards that have a jigsaw patterns in yellow across their white skin on the top. I don't they have that type of sharp all the way over here. We are over half a world away from Korvosa. Well yes we will control the trade from the mouth of this river. It will also protect us from raiders from the sea or others who would seek to do us harm. You know Korvosa had another city that had the only mission to make and support the Korvosian navy and guard the entrance to the large sea inlet to Korvosa.

Since entering the plains we have run into an abnormal amount of hyenas. The laughing fools stalk us at every turn. I'm starting to think we have been cursed by the hyena god or something along those lines. It all started when he killed that hyena the next day we were attacked by 5 dire hyenas those huge beasts impressed me a great deal while attempted to grind on our bones to bits. The day after that we ran into another Dire hyena and a brilliant idea hit me why not keep it. i than proceeded to knock it out and tie it up bondage style. Wither Fang our resident druid decided to befriend and train it i recommended to train it to ride. time to leave 4th day of travel is here.

Commander I would start to agree that the Hyena gods are against us in our endeavor. However their gods are weak and nothing compared to our skill with blade and lance. Did we not show them that the very best of their race the Dire Hyenas were but wheat upon the farmers scythe. We reaped a great tally of their ilk. Even now that bold one that would defy us has been captured and in time will serve us. Such is the fait of those who would defy our very destiny to tame and rule these lands.
