Entry 38.4713
I have been tasked to accompany my old friend, Sir Friedich, to
Volkenheim. My duties are threefold. I will primarily be acting as a
diplomatic aid. I’ll have to remember some of the “verbal swordplay”
Professor Houserock taught me back at the academy in Therindale.
Secondly, I am to act as our company’s medic. This, in my opinion,
is my strongest talent. I have always enjoyed tending to the wounds of
others. Lastly, if it is deemed necessary, I am a warrior-protector.
Though I do enjoy practicing with my sword and hammer, when it
comes to actual combat, I never enjoy ending a life - even if it is an
evil one. All life is precious. And if there is a chance a soul can be
redeemed, I will pursue that over any execution.

I have just learned who all will be accompanying Sir Friedich and I.
I have worked with two before, while others I have not even met. It
is indeed a diverse group. I hope, with all the differences, no inner-party
conflicts will arise. First, there is Ilania. Though I have never worked
with her before personally, I recall several stories Sir Friedich told me of
her. She is apparently a very gifted arcane spellcaster. Next there is Azx.
I’m told he is to be our scout. Though never properly introduced until now,
I have seen him several times before in the church. My initial gut
instinct tells me to watch my back. There’s something squirrely about him.
Lastly, there is Sir Myrandos. He and I have spoken several times at
the academy. We have even sparred once or twice. I was never able to
best him in combat, so it will be nice to have his skill at arms with us.

Well, we have finally set out on our long journey to Volkenheim. To be
honest, I’m glad to be outside the city lands. Ever since the Battle of
Halivos I haven’t been outside the city gates all that much. I think
this trip will be good for me - spiritually and mentally.
I believe I spoke too soon. Not too long after leaving, I came down
with a terrible ailment. Go figure, the medic gets sick. I was miserable -
coughing, sneezing, and running a fever. It was so rough, I could barely
keep up with the others. That’s when we came across the mage. Luckily
they didn’t need my help to subdue him, because I was on the sidelines
doing little more than cheering them on. Hopefully I’ll get well soon.

After we captured the mage and set back out on the road, a day or so
later, we came across a giant mantis! Unfortunately, it saw us as food
and began attacking us. Azx’s skill at archery was quite impressive -
especially compared to mine. On the other hand, I did land one good
shot against the creature. Sir Friedich and Ilania’s strange pet were the
ones to finish it off though.
