I'd do it. There comes a time where you need to sit and wait and get that set of plate armor made for yourself.

What renen said is true. Please reconsider Clout. I am going to build a crafter. But a crafter needs levels, otherwise he can't craft. If he also needs a long time to craft, this will make crafters fall behind and either never be able to craft due to levels or never be able to craft due to insufficient time.
Like renen said, no one will want to stay locked and imagine us reaching higher levels, where the average equipment that one should be wearing to be able to have a reason to be at encounters is around 100.000. Even with 2 people cooperating and with the appropriate feat, this would take a character to be an elf to just be able to craft equipment for one person. Now, imagine being in the place of the crafter of a faction. Having to dress 5 or so people with that cost.
Also, this way, martial classes are underpowered even more. Since it takes a crafter so much time to craft an item, he is going to sell it for a horribly great price. That would either lead the martial classes to be underpowered due to lack of equipment, or buy it at the abovementioned price.
My proposal would be that crafting can be done along with traveling, since it makes sense (by the rulebook at least, it states 8 hours sleep, 8 travel, 8 hours... look at each other) realism wise. You could just put penalties for those who did this, which is also part of my proposal: They gain a penalty for not having tools, for not having a workplace and are considered fatigued for any encounter they find. If they try to flee the encounter, they become excausted and cannot flee from combat anymore until they spend a single day without crafting (which would strongly differentiate the difficulty of making mundane and magical weapons, since the crafting of a mundane weapon can be interrupted, that of a magical item cannot). Also, the corresponding penalties from exhaustion apply.

Well, I had a fight last week with me and one person. We each gained 1/2 a level. Later on it wont be as fast, but think about it. If people level once every 3 weeks for example... And later on it would take that long for someone to craft one item... How much would the item cost to be worth "losing" a level?

We've probably hit the point where we should move any discussion to the proposal discussion sub forum. I think we've pretty well established what the rule is, and if we disagree with it, this is the wrong place to be. Talih Gents! Onward to democracy!
