Drugo was right behind Kaelmourn on the little adventure back. His eyes so attuned to watching his surroundings. He kept a good pace jogging behind Kaelmourn. He felt fresh and alive, more like the exercises he did in the underdark with the warriors as they trained themselves, but with the smell of fresh oxygen and forest. It felt interesting.
While they were at a quick pace, Drugo had asked, "It's interesting how far we trekked. How do you rangers train to get really well at knowing directions?"

The Drow Noble leaped up atop a thick root and then jumped forwards, kicking himself off of a tree trunk to land expertly. He wasn't quite sure how to answer Drugo's answer. It wasn't just his training, it was a part of who he was. He tried to put the wording as best as he could.
"We train for different environments, learn how to survive in each for when we go on raids to the surface. But that's only half of the training really...you need to be attuned to your surroundings, to be able to know instinctively what the feel of the wildlife is and where weaknesses in the environment so you can travel faster."
Kaelmourn was getting close to the edge of the forest now, close to the lip where they could see the gates in sight. What he saw as he stepped out of the clearing made him quickly duck back in behind a tree, eyes watching with horror and a slight shake.
Ahead of them was an army, all marching against the doors which were now cracking with the weight of battering rams hitting its surface. Loud war-drums sounded through the air as well as the crackle of bon-fires that lit up the human army's path to the gates.
"Goddess..."

Drugo quickly ran behind a toppled trunk. He peeked over to see the army. "I assume we passed their army without knowing and they sent scouts to track us down.", Drugo said with a surprised look.
Drugo then observed the army, trying to look at the banners that were displayed. "How did these troops find the underdark? And what's their motive behind this?"

Kaelmourn watched, counting human after human until eventually he gave up counting. This assault looked like it had just begun but an hour or two after they had left, the underdark's gates soon to collapse under the weight of the heavy battering rams.
"There has to be at least a thousand of them...This couldn't be just one kingdom, could it? Several groups of humans all coming together?" His mind struggled with the idea for a while until the conclusion hit him with sad realization, "We can't help them..."

Drugo went back behind the log and let his head hit the log. He let out a big sigh of sorrow and then calmed himself down. "I guess you're right. If we fought them, it would be of no effect."
Drugo then went into a sitting position, then looked at Kaelmourn. "Well, home is home, and now it's gone. I doubt we could find any comfort among humans, given that they act no different than those silly orcs." His eyes closed for a short while then opened with grief, "You think it might be a sign of fate that we managed to live?"

Kaelmourn frowned deeply but just continued watching the army as it made its push. Eventually with a loud crash the gates were forced open by a sudden push by three battering rams on the large gate. Cries of war went out all across the human columns as they marched forward. Their front-ranks instead charged, a series of movements that more and more of them took apart of. Kaelmourn simply watched at the horror of it all as his home was doomed, stripped away from him. His legs gave out and he watched the movements of steel and flesh in a rippling wave.
"Barbaric savages...." Was all he could say.
