Kaelmourn Finished skinning the last of the Halflings, storing the skins in a bag and some of their flesh into a different one. By now the one that he had planted onto a spit had finished cooking. He took the halfling down, remembering it to be the only that close enough to hit the Ranger only to be felled by Drugo's blade. Kaelmourn moved the spit away from the fire and started to carve out sections of meat with his short-sword, taking in the deep smokey-scent of the cooked being.
"Enjoy some." Kaelmourn said plainly, offering a good portion of the Halfling to his bodyguard. "It was your kill, enjoy it." With that Kaelmourn took a large bite from one of the legs and said nothing, wishing there were spices and other flavors to use to enhance the meal but enjoying their kills all the same.

Drugo took the cooked halfling and started taking bites out of it. The sun was beginning to set and the stars were poking into the Purple-blue sky. Drugo pulled his katana out in front of him, the sides sparkling and the edge sharp. It made him feel comfortable to be around it, it was something he had always carried from place to place. A red cloth was pulled out and was used to wipe the blood off the blade.
"I am curious. Where are we going?", Drugo asked. His eyes moved from his blade to Kaelmourn.

Kaelmourn gave a soft shrug, most humans probably wouldn't have noticed the movement but Drow and Elves in general had much better senses than the lowly race that dominated the surface-world, his guard would notice it. "It doesn't much matter, I needed to be away from the Underdark's walls and have more experience with the surface world. I'm curious as to why Humans hold so much control and our Elven cousins do not. It is the question of if the surface-elves are simply that weak or if there's something this race of apes has that we have yet to discover."
Kaelmourn took a large chunk of flesh from the Halfling's body and bit into it hard, something not quite feeling right here. He couldn't quite put his finger on it, but he felt like something important was occurring. Was it good? Was it bad? Was it merely his imagination playing tricks on him? He didn't know...
"What race do you hold particular loathment for Drugo? The Elves? The Dwarves? Perhaps something else." By this time the sun had begun to set and the Thermographic vision that Drow had began to kick in slowly, seeing heat patterns and other such things. It was more relaxing to have such active than normal sight, to be able to see in the dark so much more easily than the other races was an advantage Kaelmourn took great pride in.

Drugo finished cleaning his blade. He took both hands and raised them slightly so Kalemourn can see it. "This sword is no ordinary sword. The humans call it the katana, but only a selective humans can make it. These swords are very sharp. One fluid motion can chop a weakling in half, but orcs...they may take more chops necessary to take them down." When Kaelmourn was finished looking at it, Drugo took out the sheath and put the sword into it in one motion without missing.
Drugo shrugged, "I don't know what I loath for. I'm just a samurai, someone with great talents in battle."
Drugo could feel the uneasiness as well. His ears started moving to pick up any unusual sound. Drugo had whispered, "Do you feel it? It feels like something is nearby."

Kaelmourn examined the blade. Though it was a good blade he was sure the Drow had finer variants in the underdark that they could craft. All the same though it was a fearsome-looking tool of death. Its sharp curve did bring some admiration from the Ranger. But his mind was still on the the disturbance, unsheathing his bow once more and knocking another arrow. He waited, longer and longer he waited as the sun continued to settle over the horizon.
Suddenly a voice cried out, "There's some stragglers! Get 'em!" followed by several other war-cries. Kaelmourn spotted the source of the voice, seeing several humans charging in towards them. He pulled the arrow back and released, the feathered shaft nailing one man hard in the shoulder and sending him spiraling to the ground.
"Ambush!"

Drugo ran up and hid behind the tree. He used his ears to sense the oncoming assault. As a man came near, Drugo slid from the trunk of the tree to the side of the man and in one chop the man fell in two. Drugo quickly went back behind the tree and peeked.
"How many do you think there are?"
Drugo could hear the footsteps nearby, and estimated the distance between him and it.

Kaelmourn narrowed his eyes and examined the field of battle as it occurred, landing two more shots off as their attackers came at them. One arrow dug deep into a human's eye-socket, scrambling his brains inside while the other got stuck into the wooden shield of another. One man came right at him and swung, Kaelmourn tilting back as the sword and its wielder charged right past him. He nailed the human in the back with a following shot before his attacker could come at him again.
"I count 8 still living." He said calmly, the Elven language much more smooth and elegant in comparison to the brutish tongue the Humans called Common.

Drugo ran from his hiding place and surprised the two approaching humans by quickly slashing one of the humans on the neck diagonally. The other chopped at Drugo, though instinctively he jumped and continued the slash cutting at both humans in the jugular in a fluid motion like a wave. Drugo landed at the same time the woozy humans dropped from the sudden fatal attack. He then turned towards the remaining forces and held his sword in front of him with both hands vertically, and watched the troops very carefully.
"Make it 6." He said in return in the elven language.

Kaelmourn focused in deep, listening closely, watching. There was one he hadn't spotted before, a human wearing simple robes and holding up a staff. He was spouting out litanies and words of encouragement to his allies. He was speaking fast so it was hard for Kaelmourn to really understand what he was saying. Was he perhaps some human version of the priestesses back in the underdark? Simply louder and...male..an oddity. Kaelmourn drew back his bow and held his breath, focusing solely on that voice. In his concentration though he allowed his awareness to slip on the humans around him as one with a heavy-looking mace rose up behind him with the thick crude weapon raised high into the air to try and smash the Drow Ranger.

Drugo looked in Kaelmourn's direction with a surprised look. He got out of his stance and quickly ran as fast as he could in Kaelmourn's direction. There he jumped off the side of the tree and lunged a solid slash to the neck of the human and finishing the fluid movement with a thud from the headless human next to Kaelmourn, and Drugo tumbling as he hit the ground.

Kaelmourn was completely unaware of the kill that occurred behind him, focusing solely on the kill he had to pull off. With a high-pitched twing the arrow loosed and sped forward, spearing through his target's throat to silence the priest for good. There was a moment of silence in the humans before they barked out orders in a different language this time and turned tail.
Kael watched while they fled, breathing in deep as he looked over to Drugo with a reassuring nod. A thought crossed his mind as he then added, "They said stragglers...Were they attacking something else?" He asked as a cold realization slowly dawned upon him. "The underdark..."

Drugo pushed himself off the ground and looked up at Kaelmourn, "Possible, but I doubt they would attack the underdark. It's more of a coincidence that they attacked us right where we killed the halflings. Could it be the halfings that they were so inclined to murder?" He gave the headless man a quick stern look before sheathing his katana into his scabbard.

Kaelmourn frowned deeply but said nothing as he moved into the forest a small ways until he came upon the priest's corpse. His eyes watched the fleeting heat signatures as the body began to gently cool in the night air. The Drow Noble knelt down and yanked the arrow out with a wet squelch of blood and ripping flesh. He thought for a moment and then reached down with the tip of his short-sword towards the man's face. He dug the blade into the eye-socket just below the actual eye as he smoothed its way in and then popped the tiny organ out.
Kaelmourn severed the stem and slipped the man's eye into one of his pouches. His hooded gazed fell back upon Drugo. "We should head back, to check just in case. If there's an attack on our home we would need to be there to help repel them." There was perhaps a small hint of worry in his voice. For all that he loathed inside of those cavern walls, it was still his home, his...well, everything. He worried about Cantha as much as he hated to admit it.

Drugo listened to what Kaelmourn had to say and thought about it. He returned the gaze upon Kaelmourn. "I agree. We best return for now. For what is home is home. I would wonder what we would do without it." He then looked around at all the trees and then back to Kaelmourn and said, "I, uhh, don't remember how to get back. You wouldn't mind leading the way?"

Kaelmourn gave a grin underneath his hood at the added request for directions. He nodded once and stood up to lead the way. The forest was thick but his mind was well-attuned to it oddly enough despite this being his first time on the surface. He felt oddly comfortable here and he more felt his way back than anything else. It would be a very long trip back and Kaelmourn didn't like this in the slightest. He wanted to get back, even if he would just leave right afterwards. He needed to make sure that his home was safe.
By now nighttime had fully fallen and Kael relied on his infrared vision to see ahead of himself, a rather useful trick of his race really. A good hour passed and yet he didn't feel any closer to home even though he knew the two had made good progress on the trip.
