here's a thought...
there's clearly a LOT of houses on the board... would it be hard to believe a character Would BUY one of these buildings? perhaps either live in it or run a business out of it for money? (possibly an excuse to actually USE the profession skill?)

I know I want to make a tavern that is absolutely guaranteed not to be a front for a league of Gentlemen...

Yes we want this to happen we are even thinking about you being able to demolish the houses next to your and add onto an existing house.

I have been going through bits and pieces of information you have given regarding Calis and IMHO, I feel that we need to take a look into how much revenue a player rakes in in order to go about in the world (Indeed, buying a house is expensive, even with the initial downpayment, then you have to worry about monthly amortization!).

If the players are already in the city shouldn't they at least have some kind of residence?

I think there was discussion of everyone possibly having a house of residence to start off with. Don't hold me to that.

Doesn't even have to be a house, just a place of residence. Like under a bridge for the beggar guild or in a shop as a merchant.

I was thinking of my new character to be a person who secretly lived in the sewers

Yay for a sewer system! Also, where is the exit for the sewer now that the entire city shifted planes? Unblock the sewers because their stinking up the place quest anyone?

i do like the idea of everyone starting with perhaps some form of basic residence. perhaps you could give them an opening budget exclusively for there home? then they could possibly tack on extra starting gold (i sense "rich parents"...) to make it nice and/or make it into a business of some kind.
I don't know if pathfinder has rules for running a business. but i believe DnD 3.5 DMG 2 has rules for running a business that could easily be simplified and modified for this... probably more-so for inspiration then literally Porting the rules... (i have a copy floating around and remember operating 4-5 shops and a debatably legal Loan-sharking business). i think it boiled down to a Skill roll with a lot of modifiers. whats funny is those rules included a way to possibly Tank your business if you don't do it right or just have bad luck...
it might be a little too much at first though, so perhaps something to consider Post-launch

I think residency should be affected by backstory. for instance, a poor thief shouldn't own a mansion while a royal or noble should
