Avalon Rising is recruiting members of magical races and magical classes.
Avalon is Rising Once Again from the Mists of Time.
History:
Long ago the magical races of Avalon were persecuted to the point of near-extinction. In a last-ditch effort at survival, all the magical races placed their children onto a veiled isle and combined their powers to shield it and make it vanish. It was not to rise again until such time as it was safe to re-emerge, and bring magic back to the world once more. Even races that typically despised one another, combined their magic for this effort.
Histories were hurriedly left with the children, but they are by no means complete, which resulted in some unintended consequences.
The most powerful casters perished, only their children survived.
Races no longer remember who hates whom.
(There is lots of room for participation in creating ancestral backstories).
Avalon is a “Meritocracy” where anyone can gain a title in the kingdom, but they must earn it. (No one really cares who yo' mama was.)
There are lots of strange mutations between races.
Members:
Members must have either a spellcasting race, or a spellcasting class, preferably both. (Yes, rangers, inquisitors, etc count)
Races:
The large majority of races present in Avalon are Elves, Half-Elves and Gnomes.
Any race With A Spell-Like Ability or a Supernatural Ability as a racial trait, will have a strong presence.
Also races with an Animal Form like Catfolk, Kitsune, and Vanaras are seen frequently.
Elemental races are known, such as Ifrits, Sylphs, Oreads, and Undines.
Any Fey Race from the Bestiary with 10 or less RP will be considered.
You can create your own Fey race, using the Fey and Standard Templates up to 10 RP. But you have to get it accepted as a Custom Race.
True Humans are extremely rare, and are accepted only if they are a spellcasting class. (They also experience quite a bit of reverse-discrimination.)
Classes:
Any class with spellcasting ability is welcomed.
Includes classes like Rangers, Inquisitors, Magi, etc.
Pure Fighters are almost never seen. Most people training as fighters are “dipping” to enhance another class.
Alignment:
True Neutral to Chaotic Neutral.
The peoples of Avalon are expected to love nature, value diversity, follow rules reached by consensus (democratic), be respectful, and want Avalon as a whole to prosper as a means to reaching their own prosperity.
Avalon doesn't pay close attention to the good vs evil axis. (Altho' “Mwahaha Evil” is frowned upon.)
The primary values are placed on:
Magical over Muggle and
Natural over Unnatural.
Deities:
Principles like Freedom, Travel, Luck, Art, Elements, & Nature are worshipped more often then Deities.
Deities that value such principles, like Desna, Shelyn, and various Elemental and Nature gods do find some worshippers.
Roles:
The Titania (Leader, an elected position, either gender):
Ayela (founder. Character sheet in progress. Sorcerer.)
Summer King (General, An elected position, either gender, usually a Ranger)
Unknown
Winter King (Spy, Enforcer, either gender, high stealth)
Speaker for Water (Head Religious figure, usually a Druid, high wisdom)
Speaker for Earth (Treasurer, high appraise skill and good record keeper in real life)
Speaker for Fire (Head Magi, keeps histories, high knowledge skills)
Speaker for Air (Diplomat, high charisma, diplomacy and bluff)
Trade (this section is a work in progress):
Most of the Races of Avalon live either in the water or in forests.
As a consequence most of their trade goods will rely on things like fishing, herbalism, and forestry.
If permissable: rare items like darkwood and mithral will be harvested in Avalon. Also rare spell components gathered from rare creatures.
If the economy develops to that point: The inhabitants of Avalon will specialize in crafting magical items.
Although: they are
a) still re-learning the skills of their forebears, and not yet experienced with magical crafting and
b) xenophobic, and not eager to share their creations with neighbors until they develop trust.
"Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords shall be the whole of our basis of government."
