The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 6
The orc made quick work of the ratdog that I had failed so miserably at killing. The ratdogs dead the orc ran forward into the line of goblins who were furiously firing arrow after arrow at us (well him mostly, but that’s for the best really). Only then did I notice that I realized with some surprise that half the goblins were actually asleep. I must say I admire these creature’s ability to sleep I find it hard to sleep through the howling of beast at night, and these creatures slept through the sounds of an angry orc.

The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 7
In what was more an attempt to redeem my earlier failure than any real concern that the orc needed the help I prepared another spear. I ignored the forming mass of splinters and focused intently on my target. I had picked the goblin furthest away from the orc this time. No reason to risk missing again and hitting the orc and making him mad. The spear shot through the air faster than any bird I have ever seen and struck the goblin firmly in the chest, and then kept going. The spear as large as or larger than the goblin did not allow the creature to impede its flight, suffice it to say the goblin didn’t get back up.

The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 8
On the other end of the field I saw the goblins do something that very likely required more courage on their part then I have in my entire body. They put away their bows, drew swords which for an average sized man would be far closer to daggers than actual swords, and charged right at the orc. I watched in a sort of a morbid fascination as those small creatures tried to bring down the demon that was before them. The orc however did not seem terribly concerned and bore what hits they did land on him without any noticeable concern.

The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 9
I noticed another goblin with a bow taking shots at the orc, seemingly unconcerned about the risk of hitting his friends. I took the opportunity to get some more practice with my splintery spears. The only difficulty this time was that he was standing between his still somehow sleeping compatriots. I suspect that I am much less resilient to arrows than the orc and I did not want to risk waking up goblins who might decide to shoot me for that rude awakening. Ultimately it proved to be a needless concern as my spear struck true and brought down the goblin.

The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 10
Those brave creatures that had dared engage the orc in a mele were doing better than I thought I would some broke away and drew their bows again whilst the others held the orcs attention. Ultimately however it proved to be for naught. The goblins stand close to the orc were swept away as quickly as they came. After a final barrage of arrows the orc closed in on the goblin archers and crushed with somewhat disconcerting ease. All that remained alive on the field of battle was myself, the orc, the bloody unconscious man, and four sleeping goblins.

The Forest of Orcs and Goblins Part 11
What happened next I hesitate to recall. Never before had I seen anything that could have prepared me for the display of savagery I was about to see. The orc proceeded to kill the goblins who somehow managed to sleep throughout the entire battle. Which ultimately was to be expected, what I did not expect was that the orc then went around and ripped the heads one by one off of every fallen goblin. Presumably collecting trophies of his kills, it was in that moment that I watched the senseless blood and gore of this display that I realized that I had entered a world far different from my sleepy village.

The Tower Part 1
After his display of savagery the orc turned his attention to his downed companion and myself. He became quickly apparent that the orc didn’t mean me any ill which was as welcome a sentiment as it was a surprise. Orcs in the books I have read are largely regarded as mindless savages and worse. With the distinct feeling that I got very lucky in backing the right horse, I watched the orc tend to his fallen compatriot. I observed the orc bandage the wounds of his compatriot in an expected display of care and skill.

The Tower Part 2
In a show of friendship I attempted tend to the orc’s wounds and while I am an not by any means practiced in the art of healing the lack of any immediate threat or time restraints meant that I could bandage up the orc’s wounds fairly well. When the orc’s companion regained consciousness I discovered that he was a practitioner of magic as well. He knew some form of healing and between the two of us the orc managed to get back to full strength fairly rapidly. He and his companion led me to a tower where I was apparently welcome to rest for the night.

The Tower Part 3
While I would not say I developed a friendship with the likely feral orc. I am also not a stain on his hammer which is likely better than can be said by many who have met this barbarian. I left the tower in the morning as I had received a raven from The New Order. They were apparently very close to where I was now and it should only be a few days trek through the forest before I would be able to meet them. With my goal far closer than I thought I eagerly set off into the woods.

The Thoughts of a Familiar Part 1
I must admit my master though I loathe that term. Let’s go with wizard, yes wizard is far less demeaning. I must admit my wizard has survived better than I initially thought. Despite seeming to go temporarily insane from (potentially magical) sting, he somehow managed to not die immediately when he got into a fight. My respect for him was rising with every one of those strange wooden stingers he seemed to be able to summon from thin air. I watched as he reacted to the prospect of a fight with a speed worthy of a scorpion. I felt the pride emanating off him when he killed the first of the strange short things. It was, dare I say it cute.

The Thoughts of a Familiar
Alas it couldn’t last, right as I thought my master was anything other than foolish and insane, he follows a beast that could likely eat him in a few vomits. (ooc: Scorpions eat be vomiting digestive juices on their pray.) What is worse my foolish wizard actively helped the beast tend his wounds. My wizard and I could have feasted for days on those two creatures had he struck while they were weak, or he could have fled while the beast couldn’t have possibly caught him. Perhaps my sting is both a gift and a curse; I do hope there are bugs in this part in the world because my wizard isn’t going to last long.
