We can also dig a pit in front of front gatehouse and have false ground on top of it.

I don't think we were told how many enemies we were going to have confronting us. Could be 80.

Honestly since we are on defensive a 14:6 ratio of archers to fighters is preferred. We set up archers in front most battlement with some in the back protecting against climbers. Have the walls protecting courtyard set to blow in event we lose gatehouse and have all archers retreat back to wall around keep. We can also have a wizard on Front battlement casting fireball down at the narrow pathway. Have a pile of stones on top of wall to drop on climbers. Honestly this will be too easy. Spade should increase attackers to like 80 <abbr>The only reticence about archers is unlike a real life or grand strategy seige, they'll have much diminished strength for bowmen. I completely see your point, but there's a fair chance that by the time they can be seen and fired upon, they'll only need about 2 rounds to charge into melee range of interior defenses or cover, which puts the archers at a big disadvantage. That is unless the gates come barred in some fashion, in which case, yes, forward volleys will decimate them. My only concern is if they aren't we'll have a lot of archers plinking because of firing into melee or at cover targets. Guess we'd need to find out the status of that. Another worthwhile defense to consider might be pits. Placed at chokes, Presuming they are large enough (say 10'x10'x10') they'd force acrobatics (and subsequently climb) checks from each unit trying to get through them, and if the pit is open, it's a shooting gallery for our bowmen to fire into. EditL And silly me, I didn't see we bled onto the next page and pits being suggested already.

The gates will be bared and the enemy will have to break them. Rocks will be available to drop on enemy forcing reflex save or take 2d6+ damage.
I will be rolling a defensive fighter that will prevent advancement of the army through gates. Our biggest concern will be orcs with grappling hooks trying to climb walls.
Fill pits with tar and burn those that fall in

I will be a Ranger up on the walls picking them off as they come and then switching over to melee if I have to. (I don't intend to have to)

And the Orcs were repelled by arrows! Turns out they suffered an allergic reaction when their jugular was ripped apart by an arrowhead.

Gavin deBour was successful in his getting bitch-slapped by a gargantuan-sized Ogre of death. Still survived though.
