Would you be opposed to me making a different level 5 character to use instead of effigy?

Nope any lvl 5 is usable and you have no item restrictions in what you use your gold for. Also start using this thread to discuss how you would like to set up your defense so I can mark it on the map.

Well my suggestions for the siege would be as follows:
Archers on the walls either paired with warriors or PCs.
Pots of oil over the gates to dump upon the orcs.
Tar on the roads in certain choke points.
Fires in areas that can see the tar so you can light arrows on fire, or something on fire and alight the tar to burn up some more orcs.
Those are only a few ideas I wouldn't mind talking in more detail about better ones.

Makes sense and yes the warriors thing was noted as I said to pair the Archers with warriors or PCs on the walls I see what you are saying that possibly need to double up on warriors per archers. I hope others that are joining me tonight start posting their ideas.

I'd suggest Paired archers on the 3 innermost battlements, and a single archer each on the remaining ones (10 total), that gives 4 with a vantage over the exterior main entrance to the north, 7 overlooking the small "entrance courtyard", and 4 overlooking the interior courtyard.
With the remaining 10 as warriors, you could place them paired to cover ingresses: main gate (entrance courtyard), either side of the gate between the two courtyards, a single man guarding each of the stairs to the battlements, and 1 free roaming troop to assist as needed.
As for defensive objects, I'd put them either with any of the paired units, or ones who are accompanied by a PC (this allows one to activate the defense while the other can act normally in the round/protect the guy deploying the defense.
For lighting, we probably want to focus on the interior of the castle (either or both courtyards), as it's where we're likely to do the most fighting, with a few lighting the main pathway to the north so our archers can see and fire at the incoming enemies (as opposed to those orcs using their tricky darkvision to get the drop on our shooters.

Those are some pretty good ideas. I think a plan is formulating for tonight!

Honestly since we are on defensive a 14:6 ratio of archers to fighters is preferred. We set up archers in front most battlement with some in the back protecting against climbers. Have the walls protecting courtyard set to blow in event we lose gatehouse and have all archers retreat back to wall around keep. We can also have a wizard on Front battlement casting fireball down at the narrow pathway. Have a pile of stones on top of wall to drop on climbers.
Honestly this will be too easy. Spade should increase attackers to like 80

Best defensive construction IMO is rolling boulders aimed down the path.
