I think that we should implement a moral system into the game to make managing countries a little bit more realistic. It makes sense to me that the people living under an oppressive dictatorship would be much harder to control that the ones under a well regulated democracy and that there should be both good and bad consequences for each circumstance. This would also allow for some events that happen within the borders of a country (see Extra Events). There could be festivals, tournaments, feasts, etc.
It would give us the option to build things that accomplish more than just income and defense. We could build wonders that would make each country unique in some way like huge cathedrals for religious ceremonies and grand colosseums for tourneys.
This would also allow each country to elaborate on the laws and policies that govern the land. Do the citizens need passports to move from one place to another? What is legal/illegal? What is taxed and how heavily are those things taxed? What fundamental rights do the citizens of a country have? The options are almost endless.
This is just an idea I'm throwing out there, but I really think that it would make a lot more sense to know these things about a country. Even if it doesn't have large effect in terms of game mechanics, implementing a moral system would help add some diversity to the countries by making them more than just a collection of hexes, castles and cities. What does everyone else think?

I agree with most of these but one problem i have is that it will make the game very complicated so close to the beginning. I think they should be implemented as the game advances.

I disagree. 1. I think that the flavor you're referring to will develop organically. 2. I'm against a complicated system that "doesn't have large effect in terms of game mechanics." 3. Well regulated democracies are a myth.
The rules are a guide. If you want to be creative do it. We've got a GM, you need to trust that your actions will be taken into account.

I can see this being a very good idea if it takes the form of an public opinion poll from the NPC point of view that updates & changes as a result of each country's actions/policies, but a system where countries are directly rewarded or reprimanded based on a morality system seems stifling to gameplay and creativity. Seems to me that it would promote a certain style of gameplay. It may also help potential players get a feel for what's going on and where if they had access to condensed info like that before joining.

Obviously the idea needs a little work, but I do believe that it would really add to the experience if these extra options were to be introduced to the game piece by piece as the game progresses. Remember that later on there will be a pair of "senators" representing each faction that will get together and flesh out the specific rules for this sort of thing so I don't think that complexity will be a problem or that there will any sort of bias in favor one play-style over another.

I agree with samuelm to the extent that it makes sense to add all these things, however I agree more with tarabull that the game will naturally evolve to include them when the event arises.

I to think that it will evolve on its own but support instituting it if said evolution does not occur.
