Currently, there is a 90 percent chance that you get a random encounter for every 3 hexes of movement. I think this should be changed so that there is a small chance of getting an encounter per day of travel. This percentage would increase for every day your party doesn't get an encounter to balance things out. The way it is now, people travelling by road can have 4 encounter while those travelling on mountains can only get 1 in the same amount of time. This doesn't make any sense and I think my proposal will fix this problem.

A reminder, if you want this rule to change please submit a formal proposal to be voted on. Rules changes, in most cases, only come into effect on the Friday reset.

I would like to bring this up as well, because if we get some sort of movement increase with next week you could do... 14x6/3= 28 random encounters a week!!!!
Lets try and prevent ourselves from spawning thousands of roaming baddies in the sea. Also this will help those groups that have no druid/ranger to get some random encounters.

i believe a good solution is change it to mp spent as an example "i spend 6mp i get an encounter" such as this

How is that different than hunts Hunterkiller?

because its not you spending 2 mp LOOKING for a fight its you spending 2 mp moving and having a chance of being dragged into a fight mp is our main measure of time in the realm each mp is 8 hours therefore using mp to decide on encounters is the same as using time traveled just in a more stringent way
another way that it could be done is roll 1d100 every 2mp spent with a higher chance of encounter for the more mp so lets say at 2mp the chance is 20% at 4 its 40& at 6 its 60% and its culutative and is reset upon encounter

After taking a look at what everyone has been posting I've come up with a general rule for how this should work. After one day of travel (2mp) there should be a 10% chance for an encounter, on the second day this doubles to 20%, on the third it goes to 40%, on the fourth it goes to 80% and on the fifth day of travel you will always get an encounter no matter what. Once you get an encounter the "timer" will reset to 10%. I feel like this system will fix the issues I brought up at the beginning of this thread without over complicating the encounter more than it already is.

Could we keep it in line with the current rate of encounters by putting it at 20%-40%-80%-100%. I ask this because many people seem to want to level quicker in this game and I fear 10-20-40-80-100 would slow down traveling experience to the point that people interested in leveling wouldn't want to travel at all.

I would like to see this fast tracked. I think an encounter every two in game days is fair. Please provide all your ideas and we can choose what to implement into the game.

How about reduced 10% chance along a road... Minimum 10% Maximum 99%
25%, 50%, 75%, 99%
Along a Road it would be: 15%, 40%, 65%, 89%, 99%
This also gives chances of random encounters for each Hex traveled.
Stopping and hunting would also reduce the Distance % counter by 1... But there was an option for Hunts to cost 1 movement but after spending 2 days in the same Hex...
If we make it so complicated that you need an arithmetic degree to figure out movement then nobody will think it fun.

Could we please fast track this along with the movement changes so we don't have a week of boats giving 28 encounters in a single week.

Alright, I'm gonna try to include everyone's input into this.
First I've got Spade and hunterkiller. I'm going to keep the original 10%, 20%, 40%, 80%, 100% idea but I will allow the option to make it 20%, 40%, 80%, 100% if the members of the party so chose. However using that option will cost the party an extra movement point per 3 hexes traveled to represent the amount of time spent looking for encounters during travel.
Next, there's sylyle. I don't think that being on a road makes you any safer (highwaymen and such) so I don't agree completely with what you say but I do believe civilized land is safer. There should be a -10% in hexes owned by a faction, a -25% for hexes containing a village/tower, a -50% for hexes containing a town/keep and -100% for hexes containing a city/castle (note that these values are not cumulative, you use the highest [lowest?] value).
I'm going to move this to the proposal section for people to vote on soon because of the many requests to get this rule implemented. If you disagree with anything I've said here than post on that thread.
